10am - 4pm Altadena, CA Our relationship with fire is complex and enduring, beginning over a million years ago. Making and tending Stone Age fire is full of challenges including wet conditions, wind, cold, heat, darkness, injury, and ego. There is an art to doing it efficiently and gracefully. Can you make a friction fire kit without a knife? In the dark? In the snow? Can you carry it for hours to your next campsite? Can you sleep on it? Safely bring it inside your shelter? We’ll learn all of this and more as we explore the Art of Fire. This class takes place in a lovely spot beside a stream. We will hike in about 40 minutes to our site along an easy, level trail.
