Service Description

2-Day Class Saturday, January 25 10am - 5pm Sunday, January 26 10am - 2pm Age: 16 and up $300 I made my first drum over 25 years ago, and the drums that I and my students made have been in many, many ceremonies. This is a tool for the journey. Making a drum is a personal, ancient, and beautiful process. We will cut out the drum heads and lacing from elk hides that I received in Montana. One hide was gifted to me by a Nez Perce man and the other was hit by a vehicle (In some traditions, a ceremonial drum cannot be made from an animal that was intentionally killed with a weapon). I've then scraped and de-haired and stretched the hides so they are ready for you. Elk is the singer of the deer family, and elk's voice will be within your drum. Cedar is "The Tree of Life" because of its many gifts, including to push away negativity and draw in positivity. I always use cedar for my hoops. Drums have been utilized for music, personal growth, ceremony and community by almost every People around the world. Our focus in this workshop is to create a PERSONAL work of art and beauty for you, so we'll discuss various ideas and approaches to making and using your drum without any of the dogma of particular traditions. Together, we'll create a companion tool for your journey to the most fulfilling and amazing life you can imagine. Space is limited.
