Traditional Skills for Children: in the garden, kitchen, and forest Time: 10am - 2pm Ages: 7 & up Cost: $400/student Location: Altadena Instructors: Christina Conte and Tim Martinez During the first three days of camp, children will join Christina Conte while exploring a working urban homestead in Altadena. They will gain valuable skills and knowledge about sustainable living, gardening, animal husbandry, water conservation, fiber arts, herbalism, fermenting, and so much more. Children will then spend two days with Tim Martinez, a passionate environmental educator and land steward, on a captivating journey into the world of traditional outdoor skills. They will explore plant identification, ethnobotany, useful plants, cooking with wild foods, crafting with natural materials, and local wildlife and history, all while fostering a profound connection with the land and local environment. They will leave this camp with a sense of empowerment, a deeper connection to the natural world, and many natural handmade items that they have made or gathered on their own. Instructor Bios: Tim Martinez is an experienced educator and land steward with over 15 years in the environmental field and land conservation. With a deep passion for nature, Tim stewards over 90 acres of local nature preserves, making him a true guardian of the environment. Embark on this adventure and discover traditional skills and local ecology with Tim by your side. Christina Conte hails from rural New York and has been an avid lover of nature and all it has to offer for as long as she can remember. She is a mother to three fun-loving children, a certified lactation consultant (IBCLC), and traditional skills educator. She has also worked as a research scientist and a high school teacher of Biology, Physics, and Human Health. When not working, you can find Christina in her Altadena based homestead with her hands in the dirt.

To cancel your booking for a full refund, you must cancel no later than 30 days before the start date of the offering. All bookings are fully transferable at any time. You must email us with the name and contact information of your transferee. Our offerings take place rain or shine. We do not cancel or refund for inclement weather. We do not offer refunds for COVID-related issues.
